One of the most influential books I've ever read about building a successful direct sales/network marketing business is called "Dare to Dream and Work to Win" by Dr. Tom Barrett. I love this book and I ALWAYS recommend it to new network marketers and veterans in the business because it really breaks down the truth about what it takes and the necessary mindset that is required to build a strong and lucrative network marketing business. Dr. Tom Barrett spends opens the book teaching us about the something he calls, "Seeing through the Fog", this chapter is the bomb! Out of all the network marketing books I've read, Dr. Barrett's interpretation of what to expect when you first get in this industry is one of the best...you must check it out! It is in the first chapter that Dr. Barrett gets into what he calls the 3 foundational principles of network marketing. Dr. Barrett writes “Many people in network marketing have never heard of them. Some of us have heard of them, but pay no attention. We dismiss these principles as simple suggestions, clichés or random ideas. Consequently, the importance of these concepts as bedrock principles is lost. Like most "simple ideas", there is a wealth of insight buried within them. I won't ruin your enjoyment of reading the entire, easy to get through book, so I will stop right there.

However, I will share with you the 3 important foundational principles every black woman in network marketing must know! These are the foundational principles that Dr. Barrett talks about in Chapter one of the book, Dare to Dream and Work to Win". Here they are:
  •  Consistent Effort
  •  Duplication
  •  Give it enough time

I know they sound simple, I told you..they are, but that is the beauty and brilliance of it all. The simplicity of the words has nothing to do with the gravity of the concepts, these 3 principles are imperative for the sustained focus and success in a sistas network marketing business.  Again, Dr. Barrett does an excellent job is breaking each principle down for us, so I will give you just the quick "Cliff Notes" version in this post

Consistent Effort
You have to be willing to give consistent chucks of time to your business if you are serious about growing it.
You can vary the time, 1 hour a day, 4 days a week, 20 hours a month...the point is you MUST be consistent.
You've heard the popular saying in the industry, "You can work you business part-time, but not some-time, and never in your "spare-time". The truth is none of us have spare-time, most black women in direct sales were using 24 hours per day long before they ever heard of network marketing. The only time you will have time for your business is if you make time, and you must be consistent.

Duplication                                                                                                                                                              J.Paul Getty, America's first billionaire, stated" I would rather have one percent of the efforts of one hundred men working for me rather one hundred percent of my own efforts".

I've always heard that the way you build wealth in network marketing is to duplicate yourself, in other words, you MUST create on-going duplication in your business by "working" a simple, system that will make it easy for every new rep to sign up, get going and build her business. I think proper training, support from the company and upline along with a standard companywide system for building the business are the keys to duplication.

Think about how successful McDonalds is. It's certainly not because they have the best burgers in the world. It's because every new franchisee (your reps) goes through the same training and open their stores with the same simple system. No one is doing "their own thing". You should look at your business the same why. If you do, you will experience the amazing power of duplication and your business and money will EXPLODE!! When you read Dr. Barrett's book, you will be amazed with the information and chart he shares on pages 10 and 11. It will blow your mind!!!

Give it enough time

The bottom line of this foundational principle is you must give your business enough time to grow of you want to reap true benefits. It takes significant periods of time to grow a network marketing business. Don't get caught up in all the "hype" you may hear at a big opportunity meeting where the speakers are the exception, not the norm. We tend to lean on and showcase the stories of the people in this business that made BIG MONEY in one year, six months...heck, I've even heard stories of people make millions in 90 days! That's ridiculous!! I'm not saying that there are no extraordinary cases out there, I'm just saying this is not the norm. The norm is the sista that took four, five, ten years to build a fulltime income in network marketing.

You gotta give it enough time girl!
