As I study the MLM success tips of Randy Gage, I am get more excited to share with you some of my favorite "learnings" and realizations. Randy often talks about how there are several things one must do in order to be successful in network marketing. Things like using your product or services, have a strong desire, be enthusiatic and take ACTION! However, there are a few things most black women in direct sales THINK they need, especially when they are new to the industry, in order to be successful. What's really interesting is these things we think we need in order to be successful in network marketing, often slows down our progress.
Check out some of the "things" you DON'T need to build a lucrative network marketing business. After you read them, be sure to train new consultants on what they DO NEED and what that DON'T!
Here are 5 things you DON'T need:
Your close friends and family
This is a big one! One of the misconceptions about the high income earners in direct sales is that they built their businesses with lots of friends and family. As a matter of fact, most successful people in this industry didn't have the great fortune to start their business with their friends and family members jumping on board from the start. Now, don't get me wrong; some people are lucky in the beginning and they have their close friends and family members join upright away and take off. My upline and friend in Seriesse, Executive District Director, Mindy McCortney, joined the company as a consultant last March (we just celebrated the company's 1 year anniversary..yeah!) and in her first week all three of her brothers JOINED her team!!!! Today, Mindy has over 700 consultants in her organization and it all started with her and her family! So, it is possible, but not probable. Most friends and family wait to see if you are going to be serious and make money. Once you prove to be serious about your business, some family and a few friends will jump in. Direct Sales is full of successful black women who built their networks without a single friend or family member. I happen to be one of those black women, so don't give up!!! If family joins you later...great!
The approval of those same friends and family
I know several women in this industry that didn't have the support of their husbands when they got started. They managed to stay focused and built their networks anyway. Today, these women are "making bank" and their husbands are VERY supportive. Just expect that not everyone will be supportive of your choice to build a network marketing business. It is usually because that person doesn't understand the potential of the business you are in. You may have a friend that thinks you are "nuts" for doing one of those "things", don't take it personal and just move on. You may have a co-worker that tells you horror stories about "her friend" that lost lots of money in one of those "pyramids". It's really best to just give people like this a quick smile and thank them for their input. After that, get out of there quickly and build your business!!! You have no time for negativity.
Advice from folks that have no clue
The last thing a new consultant needs is a "friend" that has never built a successful network marketing business giving her advice. This happens very often! The best way to look at is like this, if you wanted to know how to fly airplanes, you would go to an expert pilot, right? Well, treat your direct sales business the same way, ask someone that has already built a successful network how they did it! Asking someone that hasn't succeeded in MLM, how to do it right...is like asking your single girlfriend how to make your marriage better. So, if you want to know how to make big money in direct sales, only get advice from those that have made it!
A "Perfect" company
Just like a man, if you are looking for the "perfect" direct sales company you won't find it! I'm being funny, but I'm really serious. There is no perfect unflawed men or people out there, but there IS a perfect man or person for YOU!! In other words, all direct sales companies must evolve over time. Just look at the pluses and the minuses of the company you are with, if the pluses outweigh the minuses...you are with the right company! Give the company a chance and give it your all. You will know if your are truly with the wrong company, it will feel just wrong all around. However, if you feel great about the products or services your company offers and overall it "feels right", you are where you need to be!
A College Degree
I never finished college and I am on my way to becoming one of the top paid African American women in network marketing! If you have great credentials or even a Master's Degree from school, that is awesome and I compliment you highly! However, having high credentials or a college degree of any kind is not necessary to build a large and lucrative network marketing business. I love that Randy Gage talks about being a high school drop out that made it BIG!! Of course, I encourage everyone to certainly finish high school and do their best to finish college if that is a goal. It's just important to remind people that a degree doesn't matter in this business, it's all about desire, commitment and drive!!!!
